My name is Nick Xavier. For the past 3 years I have been studying urban farming, permaculture, and food justice issues, and putting what I learn into practice on projects and collaborations. In November of 2011 I moved from Richmond, CA to Portland, OR to continue those studies, learning from farmers and folks that raise their own animals, networking with organizations dedicated to empowering people with the ability to grow their own food, and surveying the food system of a town known to be on the cutting edge of these fields of ancient knowledge.
This blog is an attempt to log and share what I find. I’ll be posting essays, gardening tutorials, interviews with local organizations, farmers, and food system related issues. I’m hoping that this website will become a resource for folks looking to learn about urban farming basics, to introduce themselves to permaculture and its potentially world changing applications, to educate themselves about food justice and to connect with like minded people.
I hope you enjoy the site. Feel free to email me at nickthegreenman@gmail.com if you have any questions, suggestions, or submissions. I would love to have guest essayists and writers to collaborate on posts.
